Laboratory Analysis

To complement data acquisition, we run a fully equipped, independent accredited sediment testing and analysis laboratory.

Our experienced laboratory technicians provide a comprehensive range of data analysis, processing and reporting services.

We participate in the NMBAQC Scheme for Particle Size Analysis (PSA) and comply with BS EN872 for determination of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) for water sampling programmes.

Particle Size Analysis (PSA)

PSA is used for a wide range of applications, from numerical model calibration to habitat classification, by determining the overall size and distribution of material within singular or multiple sediment samples. 

Depending on material type, our analysts conduct both laser analysis and dry sieving methods to inform PSA.

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis

TOC provides an indication of the level of biological material to understand the suitability or quality of habitat.

We analyse samples for TOC using a combination of drying ovens and high temperature furnaces. 

Total Suspended Solids (TSS)

Water samples for analysed for TSS can be compared against oceanographic water quality datasets to aid numerical model calibrations.

Our specialists conduct TSS analysis using fine grade filtration techniques. 

Chemical analysis

To support marine licence applications, we provide detailed chemical analysis (trace metals, PCBs, PAHs) of collected sediment samples.
